HUD issues notice on additional RAD 1 units

In today’s Federal Register (82 FR 40013) HUD announced the increase in the cap on the number of RAD 1 units from 185,000 to 225,000 units as authorized by Congress in the FY 2017 HUD Appropriations Act.  The Notice also provides information on how HUD will select properties that were submitted to HUD for RAD conversion though Letters of Intent to reserve their position on the RAD waiting list.  PHAs on the RAD waiting will have 60 days to submit a complete RAD application for the number of units that were the subject of their Letters of Intent.   The awards will be subject to the existing eligibility and selection criteria under the most recent RAD Notice issued by HUD on January 12, 2017.  HUD is issuing emails to the PHAs advising them as to their eligibility to submit a RAD application.

In addition to the selection process, HUD announces in the Notice the process for establishing the initial RAD rent levels for the new units and any replacement awards made as a result of the revocation of an earlier award.  HUD will establish initial RAD rent levels based on the FY 2016 public housing funding levels.
